Cosmosomes are a proprietary lipid–surfactant hybrid topical drug and cosmetic delivery technology engineered to enhance the performance of topical formulations. The technology is developed using a synergistic combination of polysorbate, glyceryl monooleate (GMO), glycerine, and lecithin, all of which are well established for their skin compatibility and functional performance. This advanced delivery platform is designed to improve skin penetration, formulation stability, hydration, and controlled delivery of active ingredients.

Cosmosomes self-assemble into a biomimetic micro to nano-structured delivery matrix composed of emulsified lipid domains, GMO-based liquid crystalline phases, and lecithin-derived phospholipid bilayers. This unique structural organization closely mimics the natural lipid architecture of the skin, particularly the intercellular lipid matrix of the stratum corneum, resulting in superior skin affinity and enhanced delivery of both hydrophilic and lipophilic actives.

After topical application, Cosmosomes operates through a coordinated, multi-step mechanism to enhance active delivery and skin benefits. Glycerine hydrates and plasticizes the stratum corneum, temporarily enhancing skin permeability without compromising barrier integrity. Simultaneously, lecithin-derived phospholipid bilayers and glyceryl monooleate interact with and partially fuse into the intercellular lipid matrix of the stratum corneum. This interaction creates transient lipid pathways that facilitate efficient transport of encapsulated active ingredients into deeper skin layers. The GMO-based liquid crystalline phase functions as a controlled-release reservoir, enabling gradual and sustained release of actives over time. Polysorbates stabilize the lipid structures and promote uniform distribution of both hydrophilic and lipophilic actives across the skin surface.
